IGNOU Nagpur’s Siddharth Roy received National Youth Award

Nagpur Bureau: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Nagpur Regional Centre felicitated its student  Siddharth Roy for receiving the National Youth Award (2018-19) given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Siddharth is 22 years and is among the seven youth selected from all over India, the only one from Maharashtra (2018-2019). ‘National Youth Awards are conferred every year on young individuals and NGOs for excellent work done for nation-building/community service by the Government of India. ‘National Youth Award’ was conferred at New Delhi by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur.  Usha Sharma, Secretary (Youth Affairs), and Deirdre Boyd, UN Resident Coordinator, were present. The award comprises a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000/- to individuals.

Siddharth said that he has graduated in Media Management from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He is currently pursuing his second degree in Economics (Honours) from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Nagpur Regional Centre. Siddharth is an author and a community enabler. In his books—The Special Fish and Rise in Love, he has extensively written on Youth Culture, Family Bonding, and related topics. He is also a blogger/contributor with various National Media Outlets.

Dr. P. Sivaswaroop after felicitating Mr. Siddharth Roy with bouquet and Momento, said that he is a prolific Public Speaker and has delivered four TEDx Speeches and over 50 lectures and interacted with over 17000 students. Apart from Writing and Public Speaking, Siddharth is passionate about Community Development Projects. He has previously received awards like—Rashtriya Gaurav Samman (2019), Promising Indian of the Year (2019), Mayor Innovation Award (2019), Manuscript of the year – Lit O Fest Mumbai (2018).

Dr. Sivaswaroop shared that IGNOU offers several courses related to Society, Development, Communication and adds new courses in every semester as per needs of the society. Some new additions are:

  1. Post Graduate Diploma in Development Communication (PGDDC): PGDDC will help to acquire academic knowledge, professional skills and to develop sound understanding of the core issues of the development process which will help to find numerous employment opportunities in various local, national and international agencies. Any bachelors degree holder is eligible for admission and fee is Rs. 5000/-
  2. Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Media (PGDIDM): The PG Diploma in Digital Media aims to facilitate learners on three specific domains of the emerging information and communication technology-enabled new media platforms – conceptual framework on digital media, online and digital journalism practices and internet research techniques through big data analytics and data mining. Any graduate is eligible and fee is Rs. 5000/-

    He further said that other new courses are M.A. in Entrepreneurship, M.Sc. in Information Security, P.G. Diploma in Sustainability Science, M.A. in Drawing Painting, B.A. (Performing Arts) Hindustani Music Honours, Diploma in Theatre Arts.
