Open University learners study with passion to cherish their internal urge : Prof. Padole

Nagpur Bureau: Indira Gandhi National Open University has conducted its 35th Convocation at National Level on 26th April 2022 at New Delhi. Honourable Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan delivered Convocation Address and presented Certificates. In his address he lauded the outreach of IGNOU to interior places of the Country bringing change in the Lives of downtrodden people. He also appreciated the Digital Activities of the University.

IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre has organised a function to distribute the Certificates of Nagpur Students. Prof P M Padole, Director, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur was the Chief Guest and addressed the students.

Dr P Sivaswaroop, Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre in his welcome address said that University is organising majority of activities through Online and it was more advantageous in the Pandemic. Regional Centre also continuously using Facebook Live sessions, Youtube, Google Meet, Zoom, Twitter, Telegram etc Social Media to communicate with students. IGNOU conducted exams successfully through Offline, all across the Country. Under Nagpur Region also exams were conducted at 8 places like Nagpur, Amravati, Chandrapur, Nanded, Wardha, Gadchiroli. As part of MOU between IGNOU and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Nagpur RC has identified Gadchiroli as the participating District. IGNOU has received proposal to establish study centre at Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. Efforts are being made to establish centres at Rural and interior areas like Nagbhid (Chandrapur Dt.) and Allapalli (Gadchiroli District). IGNOU plans to develop its Nagpur Regional Campus as a Digital Resource Centre and has paid total amount for the Land, 3 years ago to the Government and the District Administration is in the process to complete the Land transfer process.

Prof. P. M. Padole in his address congratulated the degree recipients for their internal urge to study further. He said that he never saw such heterogeneous group of students from 20 years to 70 years, from urban to rural and tribal areas. Prof. Padole stated he was interested in painting in his young age but there was no opportunity to pursue that passion but he appreciated the graduands that they pursued their passion through the facility of Open University provided by Government and cherishing their desires. During pandemic the conventional students have followed distance mode of education, which the IGNOU graduates were following regularly. He said IGNOU graduates have earned their degrees through offline exams, which the conventional learners should learn especially after the Covid pandemic. He emphasized that the National Education Policy 2020 is also emphasizing on Open Distance Learning.
