Nagpur Bureau: IIM Nagpur celebrated the 8th edition of ‘International Day of Yoga’ on in its new state-of-the-art campus in Mihan, Nagpur, on June 21, 2022. Led by Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director IIM Nagpur, and Lt Col Makarand V Alur (Retd), the faculty members, students and the non-teaching staff performed yoga expressing their commitment towards healthy body and healthy mind. Over 100 participants benefited from the guidance provided by Yoga expert Ms Simran Girewal during the event. Ms Girewal taught asanas focusing on physical as well as mental health. She demonstrated asanas helpful to relieve back pain, cervical, sciatica problems.
This year’s Yoga Day theme is ‘Yoga for Humanity,’ wherein everyone around the globe participated while focusing on general well-being. Yoga not only aims to strengthen the mind and body but it also helps maintain complete harmony between the two. International Yoga Day has become a global festival since its inception in 2015. Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, picked June 21 as the date for the celebration as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
The event was coordinated by two IIM Nagpur clubs – Umeed, the community outreach club and the Sports Club. By actively performing yoga, the participants internalized the motto of the day.
